İhsan Şeref Dura

İhsan Şeref Dura (* 1901 in Bursa ; † August 27, 1984 ) was a Turkish Lieutenant General of the Army (Türk Kara Kuvetleri) and a politician of the New Turkey Party , who between 1950 and 1960 headed the General Directorate for Cartography (Harita Genel Müdürü ) , from 1961 to 1965 a member of the National Assembly TBMM (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) and from 13 June to 25 December 1963 Minister of Transport (Ulaştırma Bakanı) .

Life

Promotion to lieutenant general

Dura attended the renowned Kuleli cadet institution (Kuleli Askerî Lisesi) and took part in the Turkish Liberation War between 1920 and 1923 . For his services at the time, he was awarded the Medal of Independence ( İstiklâl Madalyası ). After the founding of the Republic of Turkey on October 29, 1923, he was accepted into the army and initially completed an officer training at the Army School ( Kara Harp Okulu ) before he began studying at a technical university in France in 1927 . On his return he also completed a law degree at Istanbul University .

After his promotion to Colonel (Albay) , Dura became head of the scientific department of the General Directorate for Cartography in 1949 and then on February 10, 1950 initially Deputy Head of the General Directorate for Cartography, before finally becoming Head of the General Directorate for Cartography on July 3, 1950 (Harita Genel Müdürü) became. As such, he was promoted to Brigadier General (Tuğgeneral) in 1951 , Major General (Tümgeneral) in 1954 and Lieutenant General (Korgeneral) in 1957 . After ten years as head of the General Directorate for Cartography, he retired in 1960.

MP and Minister

In the election of October 15, 1961 , the first after the military coup of May 27, 1960 , Dura was elected as a candidate for the New Turkey Party by Ekrem Alican to the National Assembly TBMM (Türkiye Büyük Millet Meclisi) and belonged to this until the election on October 10, 1965 . At the same time he became a member of the Council of Europe as Turkish representative in 1962 .

On June 13, 1963, Dura was appointed by Prime Minister İsmet İnönü as the successor to Rıfat Öçten as Minister of Transport (Ulaştırma Bakanı) in the 27th Turkish government. He held this ministerial office until December 25, 1963, when he was replaced by Abdurrahman Ferit Alpiskender . In 1965 he retired from political life.
