İoanna Kuçuradi
İoanna Kuçuradi (born October 4, 1936 in Istanbul ) is a Turkish philosopher. She is President of the Philosophical Society of Turkey and Professor at Maltepe University .
Life
Kuçuradi was born in Istanbul in 1936 . Her ancestors are Istanbul Greeks. This means that after the population exchange between Turkey and Greece in 1922, under the minority agreements, her family was allowed to stay in Istanbul. After graduating from the Greek Girls High School Zappeion in Istanbul in 1954, she studied philosophy at the University of Istanbul and graduated in 1959. Until 1965 she did her PhD at the same university. Then Kuçuradi worked there as a research assistant. In 1970 she was co-founder and later head of the Philosophy Department at Hacettepe University . In 1978 she received a chair in philosophy. In 1997, Kuçuradi founded the Center for Research and Application of the Philosophy of Human Rights at the University.
Since 1998 she has been a member of the Turkish UNESCO Commission in the “Social and Human Sciences” committee. From 1998 to 2003, Kuçuradi was President of the Fédération Internationale des Sociétés de Philosophy and organized the 21st World Congress of Philosophy in Istanbul in 2003.
Kuçuradi has been teaching philosophy at Maltepe University since 2006, where she is director of the University's Center for Research and Application of Human Rights . She holds a UNESCO Chair in Philosophy and Human Rights.
