İsa Yusuf Alptekin ( Uighur ئەيسا يۈسۈپ ئالپتېكىن ʿĪsa Yūsuf Alp-Tekin ; * 1901 in Yengisar , Kashgar , China ; † December 17, 1995 in Istanbul , Turkey ), known in China as Ai Sha ( Chinese 艾沙伯克 àishābókè ), was a Uyghur politician who lived in exile from 1949 and from there led the Uyghur independence movement until his death . In 1933 and 1934 he was General Secretary of the National Assembly of the short-lived and unstable " Islamic Republic of East Turkestan ". At the same time he represented the republic during its existence as a representative in Nanjing .

After he first sought refuge in the Indian part of Kashmir in 1949 , he fled to Turkey in 1954 . It was there that he finally obtained Turkish citizenship . Alptekin died on December 17, 1995 in Istanbul at the age of 94. About a million people took part in the solemn funeral procession.

İsa Alptekin is the father of the exiled politician Erkin Alptekin, who lives in Germany .
