Širvinta or Sensairvintė, ( Schirwindt , Russian Шервинта ) is a river in southwest Lithuania - partly as a border river to Kaliningrad Oblast - and belongs to the Šešupė basin . The source is in the Vilkaviškis district, west of Alvito, the mouth at Kudirkos Naumiestis .

The average flow rate is over 1.49 m³ / s, after the mouth of the Rausvė, 4.03 m³ / s and at the mouth of the Šešupė 7.91 m³ / s. The average slope is about 71 cm / km.

history

Since the 15th century, the Šešupė, together with the Liepona tributary, has marked one of the most stable borders in Europe, with the neighboring states changing several times. Today Russia is on the west and Lithuania on the east.
