The Širvinta at Kultuvėnai |
The Širvinta is a left tributary of the Šventoji . It rises in the Vilnius district and flows through the Ukmergė district and the district town of Širvintos , which is named after it , before flowing into the Šventoji at the village of Dubiai (between Upninkai and Vepriai in the Jonava district ). The length of the river is about 130 kilometers. The fast current by Lithuanian standards, along with the beautiful nature, make the river interesting for kayakers and paddlers. There is the Širvinta Protected Landscape Area .
The name of the river is derived from the Lithuanian širvas "gray, white, mold (horse)".
