Żarowo (Stargard)

Żarowo (German Saarow ) is a village in the municipality of Stargard ( Stargard in Pomerania ) in the Pomeranian province Western Pomerania .

Geographical location

Żarowo is located in Western Pomerania on the Ihna , about seven kilometers northwest of the city of Stargard and 28 kilometers east of the city of Stettin ( Szczecin ).

history

The village was first mentioned in 1248 under the name Sarowe . Later the church village was owned by the town of Stargard in Pomerania .

Around 1780, there were 23 in Saarow full farmers , one , half-peasant , a Kossäten , four Büdner , a preacher's widow house, a schoolmaster, a tavern, a forge and taking also in consideration of the storage and pastoral houses a total of 46 fires. In 1834, when the common division was carried out, the number of full farmers had dropped to twenty. In 1856, a devastating conflagration took place in Saarow, in which most of the residents lost their belongings and were forced to go into debt in order to manage the reconstruction.

Around 1925, the district of Saarow had an area of ​​10.2 km², and there were 71 residential buildings in the municipality. There were two places of residence in the municipality:

In 1925 there were 366 inhabitants in Saarow, who were distributed over 92 households.

Until 1945 Saarow belonged to the Saatzig district in the Pomeranian province .

Towards the end of World War II , Saarow was occupied by the Soviet Army in early March 1945 . After the end of the war, the village was placed under Polish administration. Saarow was renamed Żarowo .

The population present in Saarow until 1945 belonged to the Protestant denomination. In 1925 all residents were Protestants.
