The company's tube plant

Železiarne Podbrezová (German: Podbrezová Ironworks) is a Slovak manufacturer of steel pipes and one of the largest companies in the country. The company produces around 160,000 tons of seamless steel tubes per year. The products from Železiarne Podbrezová are used, among other things, in mechanical and plant engineering and the automotive industry. In 2015 the company employed 3,123 people.

history

The ironworks, founded in 1840, contributed significantly to the development of the village of Podbrezová and initially produced puddle irons for rails, cookware and parts made of cast iron. A Siemens-Martin furnace was installed in 1879 and tube production began in 1883. From 1930 pipes were manufactured using the Mannesmann process . In January 1941, the former state-owned company was incorporated into the Reichswerke AG for arms and mechanical engineering "Hermann Göring" . After the end of the Second World War, the company in Czechoslovakia became a state enterprise again, but the heavily damaged production facilities were not rebuilt until 1951.
