Əhməd Abdinov

Əhməd Şahvələd oğlu Abdinov ( Russian Ахмед Шахвалад оглы Абдинов Ahmed Schachwalad ogly Abdinow ; English transcription Ahmad Shahvalad oglu Abdinov ; * 30th May 1945 in Behrud , Rayon Ordubad , Nakhchivan , AsSSR , USSR ) is a Azerbaijani physicist , university professor and former Vice Minister of Education (1993-2000).

Life and accomplishments

Abdinov began studying physics in 1963 at Baku State University and graduated in 1968 with honors. He then worked as a research assistant at the Institute of Physics of the Academy of Sciences of the AsSSR , before he switched to the Physikalisch-Technische Institut Joffe of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR in Saint Petersburg in 1969 as a doctoral student . In 1972 he defended his thesis on Germanium - semiconductors and erlang 1979 his Doctor of physical and mathematical sciences, to electronic processes in semiconductors of the type III-VI.

Əhməd Abdinov has been working at the Faculty of Physics at Baku State University since 1972. Initially as an assistant (1972–1975), he was appointed lecturer in 1975, associate professor in 1979 and professor in 1981. In 1988 and 1989 he was Dean of the Faculty of Physics. In 1989, Abdinov became head and scientific director of the Solid State Electronics Laboratory and, in 1992, head of the Department of Physical Electronics. Abdinov was appointed Deputy Minister of Education on December 2, 1993, and was dismissed from this post on January 4, 2000. Since 2000 he has held the chair for physical electronics and teaches optoelectronics , solid state electronics and general physics. His research interests lie in the properties of electronic processes in disordered semiconductor materials and structures.

In 1977 Abdinov was awarded the Lenin Komsomol Prize in the field of science and technology, was a laureate of the International Soros Foundation in 1993, and was appointed a member of the New York Academy of Sciences in 1995.

Abdinov is married and has three children. His brother is the physicist Cavad Şahvələd oğlu Abdinov .
