'Zat You, Santa Claus?

'Zat You, Santa Claus? is a Christmas carol that Jack Fox (* 1921; music and text) wrote and published in December 1953 by Broude Bros.

The first lines of the song are:

Gifts I'm preparing for some Christmas sharing
But I pause because hanging my stocking
I can hear a knocking. Is that you, Santa Claus?
Sure is dark out, ain't the slightest spark out
'Pon my clackin' jaw. Who's there, who is it
stopping for a visit? Is that you, Santa Claus?

The song 'Zat You, Santa Claus? was recorded by Louis Armstrong and The Commanders on October 22, 1953 and released on Decca Records in December 1953 (Decca 9-28943); in the Studio Orchestra conducted by Toots Camarata (of which also the big band - Arrangement came) played u. a. Billy Butterfield , Lou McGarity , Cutty Cutshall , Hymie Schertzer , Al Klink , Bernie Leighton , Carmen Mastren , Sandy Block and Ed Grady .

The song was also covered by Bing Crosby , Benny Green , Rebecca Kilgore , Buster Poindexter , Harry Connick, Jr. and René Marie (with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra and Wynton Marsalis , 2014) in the following years . Garth Brooks interprets the song in the film Just call me Nikolaus (2001).
