(14988) Tryggvason is a main belt asteroid that on 25. October 1997 by Spacewatch at Kitt Peak National Observatory was discovered.

The asteroid was named after the Icelandic-Canadian astronaut Bjarni Tryggvason on June 14, 2003 .
