(3072) Vilnius is an asteroid of the main belt , the after Lithuanian capital Vilnius was named. It was discovered on September 5, 1978 at the Crimean Observatory in Nautschnyj by the Russian astronomer Nikolai Stepanowitsch Tschernych .
