(4549) Burkhardt is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on September 29, 1973 by the research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten , Ingrid van Houten-Groeneveld and Tom Gehrels as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey .
The asteroid is named after the German astronomer Gernot Burkhardt , who works at the Astronomical Computing Institute (ARI) at Heidelberg University .
