(4977) Rauthgundis is an asteroid of the main belt , which was discovered on September 24, 1960 by the research team Cornelis Johannes van Houten and Tom Gehrels as part of the Palomar-Leiden survey .
The asteroid is named after Rauthgundis Seitz, a friend of the explorers, on the occasion of her 70th birthday.
