(5256) Farquhar is an asteroid of the main belt , which on 11 July 1988 by the team of astronomers E. F. Helin , C. Mikolajczak and R. F. Coker at the Palomar Observatory was discovered in California.

The asteroid is named after Robert Farquhar, a mission leader and developer of space probes.
