(5999) Plescia is an asteroid that was discovered on April 23, 1987 by Carolyn Jean Spellmann Shoemaker from the Palomar Observatory . Provisional names for the property were HA in 1987 and XQ in 1989 .
The asteroid was named after Jeffrey B. Plescia, a scientist who works at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory .
