(947) Monterosa is an asteroid of the main belt that was discovered on February 8, 1921 by the German astronomer F. K. Arnold Schwassmann in Hamburg- Bergedorf .
The name of the asteroid is derived from the passenger ship MONTE ROSA of the Hamburg South American Steamship Company (HSDG), which the University of Hamburg used for expeditions to the North Sea. The asteroid got its name on February 21, 1934 during an offshore school trip at the University of Hamburg.
