1-Octacosanol is a long-chain chemical compound from the group of fatty alcohols and the main component of policosanol .

Occurrence

1-Octacosanol is found in various vegetable fats and oils, mainly in wheat germ oil . It is also found as the main ingredient in sugar cane extract (Saccharum officinarum), i.e. policosanol.

Extraction and presentation

1-Octacosanol can be obtained from sebacic acid and stearyl alcohol by hydrogenation .
