1000 und 1 Nacht (Zoom!) (Spelling on the first release) is a rock song that was played by the Klaus Lage Band and written by their keyboardist Göran Walger together with Diether Dehm (aka N. Heirell) and Klaus Lage himself. It was released as a single in the summer of 1984 and then on the album sweat pearls . With number five in the German charts, it is Lages' highest-ranking single to this day.
Music and lyrics
It is a rock song that is played with electric guitars and the piano sounds of a synthesizer keyboard. After a keyboard intro, the actual song begins; A partly short two-part electric guitar solo can also be heard. The text is about two friends who have known each other for a long time and suddenly feel a strong attraction for each other after they have gone dancing together. "Touched a thousand times, nothing happened a thousand times / a thousand and one nights - and it did Zoom." The text, however, leaves open how the relationship will develop: "But I've never seen you so upset / you are lying next to me and I'm almost ashamed of it / what happened, we wanted to go dancing / everything was so familiar and now everything is new. "Klaus Lage said of the text:
“I believe that everyone has experienced this before - to be close to someone and then suddenly get to know them in a completely different way. I've already seen it. "
Emergence
The music was written by the group's keyboard player, Göran Walger, Klaus Lage and Diether Dehm wrote the lyrics. The song was written in 1983 in the Netherlands , where bassist Martin Engelien's parents had a holiday home and the band was able to rehearse in a nearby community hall. Lage couldn't remember the author of the headline; however, the word zoom was from him:
“But I think the magic word for the whole song was 'zoom'! That's why we built that into the title. And 'Zoom!' is from me, that's probably very clear! We used to take that as a gag word when - like in the comics - you wanted to express a kind of speed. Then you have 'Zoom!' said. "
The song was then recorded in Cologne and produced by Wolf Maahn . The musicians involved were Martin Engelien (bass), Wolf Simon (drums), Rocco Klein (guitar), Göran Walger (keyboards) and Klaus Lage himself (guitar and vocals).
Publication and reception
The single was released in the summer of 1984. It reached number five in the German charts and was placed for 22 weeks, from June 25 to November 19, 1984. On the B-side is the song Mamas Liebling . The single cover consists of black and white lettering on a gray background and some colored stripes. A GDR edition was also released in 1985 as a 7 " EP by Amiga .
The band appeared with the song three times in the ZDF hit parade ; on June 30, 1984 she presented it for the first time, but could not place in the top three. So she shouldn't have made any further appearances. As an exception, due to the song's great success in the meantime, she was allowed to present the song a second time as a new release in the fall. The band was then voted for first place by TED vote on September 22, 1984 and was therefore allowed to play the song again in the following edition on October 20. On December 8, 1984, the Klaus Lage Band also played the song in Thommy's Pop Show on ZDF . The group also played 1000 and 1 night in Die Superhitparade - Hits des Jahres '84 on January 17, 1985 (Zoom!) .
