Project was canceled

The 154 was a German passenger aircraft with PTL drive developed in the 1950s . After the 152 and 153, it was the third aircraft construction project in the German Democratic Republic . The project developed by VEB Flugzeugwerke Dresden (FWD) was discontinued because the Ilyushin Il-18 that was created at the same time was more powerful and more advanced in its development.

history

In addition to the license production of the Il-14 and the development of the 152 , the aircraft factory in the Dresden district of Klotzsche began to develop successor models at an early stage. The 154 was intended for routes with high traffic density and distances of 2000 to 3000 km. It should carry 70 to 108 passengers depending on the equipment. With a maximum take-off mass of 64.7 tons, it was the heaviest of the aircraft developed in the GDR. The design was completed in November 1955.

In the first draft, the realization of the project was described as "probably not necessary", since the Il-18 with almost the same performance spectrum was already in a more advanced development phase in the Soviet Union. Project 154 was the first aircraft construction in the GDR to be discontinued.

More designs

After the end of the PTL- powered 154, the idea of a medium-haul aircraft with four TL engines and swept wings was developed under the same number, which outwardly resembled the Boeing 707 . It should carry 47 to 78 passengers and have a take-off mass of 40 to 44 tons. Initially, the Pirna 014 was intended as the drive, which was to be replaced later by the Pirna 020, which was still to be developed.

The designation 154 was also used for a further development of the 152 with integral wing tanks and thrust reversers and / or silencers .

None of these projects got past an early design stage.

construction

The 154 was planned as a cantilever low-wing monoplane with a wing sweep of 11 degrees and a retractable three-legged landing gear with nose wheel. The main landing gear was to have four wheels each. A pressurized cabin was provided for the aircraft . The four Pirna 018 PTL engines were to be hung in engine nacelles in front of the wing nose and given counter-rotating propellers. The main landing gear should move into the fairing of the inner engines. The fuselage should have a circular cross-section.
