The 2nd Marine Division was a major unit of the Imperial Navy consisting mainly of marine infantry during the First World War .
history
Due to the ensuing positional war , it became necessary for the Supreme Army Command to further strengthen the coast of Flanders against a possible invasion by British troops from the sea. For this reason, the 2nd Marine Division was formed on November 24, 1914 . The division was subordinate to the Marine Corps Flanders and was mainly used on the front between Nieuwpoort and Diksmuide . It was also responsible for direct coastal protection and the security of the communities of Slijpe , Sint-Pieterskapelle, Mannekensvere, Schore, Zevekote, Gistel , Westkerke and Roksem.
