City fortifications of Zons Zons
The city fortifications of the former Electoral Cologne customs fortress Zons, planned by Archbishop Friedrich von Saar Werden between 1373 and 1408, are almost completely preserved with the surrounding city wall, the corner towers and guard houses as well as the ditches, ramparts and the forecourt. The city wall with the watchtower was built as a regular rectangular system made of columnar basalt, trachyte, tuff and brick. One of the four corner towers is the six-storey, almost 26 m high Rhine tower, completed in 1388, with the remains of the gate system of the former Rhine gate, which was also used as a customs tower to collect the Rhine toll. The round Krötschenturm and the mill tower form the western corner towers of the city fortifications, the former field gate in between as the second main gate of the city fortifications was demolished between 1833 and 1842. In the mill tower, the completely preserved mill technology with the grinder of the former mill can be viewed. In front of the south wall is the protective wall with the south-eastern corner tower, the "icebreaker". 1373 and 1408 05/15/1984 2.06

map
The state castle, built by Archbishop Friedrich von Saar Werden from 1373 onwards with the construction of the entire city complex, served to secure customs revenue for over four centuries. Column basalt, trachyte, tuff and brick were used for the almost square complex with the city wall in the south and east and the ditch in front of it in the north and west. The most striking and at the same time oldest building in the stronghold is the mighty gate tower, which was the only access to the inner courtyard in the Middle Ages. The double gate system of the south gate was the only gate leading directly into the outer bailey, which was bordered by high walls on the sides facing the city. The Judde tower, equipped with loopholes and machicolation, in the basement of which is the windowless castle dungeon, is the northwestern fortification tower of the outer bailey.

In the 20th century, various repair measures were carried out on the buildings in the stronghold area. Today the cultural center of the Rhein-Kreis Neuss is located here with the district museum in the former manor house, the international dialect archive and the archive in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, which is both the district archive and the city archive for the city of Dormagen.

An der Steinkaule 1
card
Two-storey house in 4: 2 axes from the year 1783, plastered brick, half-hip roof, dated with split pins.

The house is important for the historical development of the former village of Hackenbroich. It bears witness to the settlement and agricultural production conditions from that time. The Groß Sassenhof is a former leasehold of the Maria Garten monastery in Cologne. On the Tranchot map from 1807/08, four buildings that form an inner courtyard are entered. The two-storey brick residential building, dated by split pins, has been preserved from the monastic period. It is the eastern boundary of a closed four-wing brick courtyard from around 1900. This type of closed system is handed down from monastic times. Opposite the house is the large barn, on the right the stables with Prussian caps and z. T. cast iron supports. The southern building is the most affected. In 1928 the entrance to the gate was bricked up and the stable area was expanded. In this younger part of the stable there is a reused wedge stone with a bishop's staff, the initials M and G and the dates 1783 and 1928. The courtyard as a whole is a monument according to § 2 DSchG NRW. It is important for human history, especially for the settlement history of a monastery lease and its development after the secularization of the time around 1900. There is a public interest in the maintenance and use of the complex for scientific, architectural and local history reasons.

map
Erected in 1927 on a slight elevation in place of a previous Baroque building. Brick building over two and a half storeys on a rectangular floor plan with a hipped roof. The facade of the house has six axes, the rear wall has five axes. The windows of the building are rectangular and divided by bars. The room layout inside the building is largely the same as the original. In the corridor of the mezzanine floor and in the bathroom on the upper floor, the original floor covering made of different colored porphyry tiles has been preserved. The banisters are also original.

To the right of the house is a single-storey building, also made of jointed brick, on a rectangular floor plan, which was used as a tool shed, stable and slaughterhouse. The former pastorate is highlighted as a representative and significant building with its front side, its elevation and the handsome large front garden in front of the building. The representative character is supported by the unobstructed view of the front garden with fence border and the rectory in front of the Dorfstraße / Auf der Au junction.

map
Former school building, first mentioned at its current location in 1841.

Two-storey brick building with a hipped roof, largely unchanged since 1938. 1862/63 Enlargement of the then single-storey school building with a gable roof, a classroom with three windows on each side of the central entrance. Further conversions with heights and extensions of the building to establish a teacher's apartment in the southern part (1928) and a third classroom in the north wing (1937/38). Inside, many pieces of equipment such as doors and wall cupboards have largely remained unchanged, the room layout has been partially changed. The old school is one of the last clearly preserved evidence of the building history of the district of Hackenbroich. It shapes its location near the oldest buildings in the immediate vicinity and testifies to the development of the school system in the Rhineland, which had been a Prussian province since 1815. In its current state, the old school is a well-preserved example of building in the 1930s. Modern demands such as sufficient exposure and size of the classes are combined with traditional elements such as brick construction and a hipped roof. The historical furnishings are comparatively well preserved. The rear extensions from the 1950s and 1960s are not included in the monument scope.
