20th Century Boy

20th Century Boy is a 1973 song by the British glam rock group T. Rex. It was composed by Marc Bolan , T. Rex singer and frontman, who composed almost all of the group's songs. The song reached number 3 on the UK charts. In Germany, the song reached position 8 and stayed in the German charts for a total of 13 weeks. The song did not appear on any of the group's regular albums. The B-side is Free Angel . In 1991 the song was re-released as a single after it appeared in a Levi Jeans commercial with Brad Pitt . The song reached number 13 on the British charts in 1991.

The Japanese manga series 20th Century Boys is named after the song. There are numerous cover versions of the song, including Siouxsie and the Banshees (1979, b-side of the single The Staircase (Mystery) ), Placebo (1998, recorded for the soundtrack of the film Velvet Goldmine ), Buckethead , Def Leppard (on the album Yeah! ), Naked Raygun , The King , Kiyoharu and Adam Ant . The song also appears on the official sound track of the film Dogtown Boys .
