reception

The album reached number 73 on the charts in Germany and number 52 in Great Britain. It was only able to last for one week on both charts, while it reached number 16 on the American Billboard 200 and stayed in the album charts for 11 weeks.

Michael Rensen ( Rock Hard ) wrote about this album:

“Nice thing, such a musical journey back to your own youth. You dig out your first bought (or stolen) LP, remember the soundtrack for the first kiss and the background noise of the first bar fight. In the case of Def Leppard, the socialization soundtracks (except for the '67 Kinks goosebumps Waterloo Station ) are from the 1970s and from acts like T. Rex, David Bowie, the Faces and Mott The Hoople. Sheffield's Finest thankfully did without the usual sucked evergreens, instead they surprise with many wrongly forgotten pearls that are thundered out as raw, earthy and in a good mood as one would have wished for the last regular Leppard albums. Check out tips for the all-round successful disc: the aforementioned Waterloo Sunset , Hellraiser (Sweet), No Matter What (Badfinger), Little Bit of Love (Free) and Don't Believe a Word (Thin Lizzy).
