2 Ton Predator is a groove metal band from Örebro , Sweden .

history

The band was founded in 1993 under the name Wedge by Tobias "Tobbe" Anger (electric bass), Mogge Lundin (vocals), Petter Samuel "Mazza" Freed (electric guitar) and Mattias "Matte" Borg (drums). The band recorded their first demo in 1993 in Gorysound Studio, Sweden . It was produced by Dan Swanö ( Edge of Sanity ). However, it did not get the label attention that the band expected, so the recordings continued and further demos were sent to various labels.

Singer Lundin's eight-month jail period in 1996 also made the band's career more difficult. It was precisely at this time that a contract was signed with the TCB label. The band members continued recording and sent the tapes to Lundin to keep him informed. After Lundin was released from prison, they wanted to record the first album. However, there were discrepancies with the label, so that one parted with it. After that the band renamed itself to 2 Ton Predator to start a new beginning. The name comes from the fascination of the band for large predators (Engl. Predator back), especially the great white shark .

In 1998 they recorded a demo again and finally signed a contract with Diehard Records . The first album In the Shallow Waters was recorded in the Soundlab Studios in Sweden under the direction of the Dane Tue Madsen ( Grope ).

In 2001 the sampler Checkpoint # 3 of the Diehard label was released. It featured 2-tone Predator with bands like Daemon , Illdisposed , Necrosphere and Aurora Borealis . In the same year, the second album Boogie was also released.

The third album, Daemon Dealer , was released in 2003. Checkpoint # 4 was released that same year. Bands like Koldborn , Gurd , Aurora Borealis and Thorium could be heard on the sampler .

In 2005 an album without a name was released. It was released without the support of a label.

style

The music of 2 Tone Predator is referred to as a mixture of Pantera and Alice in Chains . Their music is also compared to bands like Entombed , but also Kyuss or Crowbar . Characteristic for the sound of the band is their slow, sluggish sound.
