action

It's about the "upscale" representative Steve Howard, who takes the young hitchhiker Ella Patterson with him in his car. Her perky, unabashed demeanor is irritating to him, and they spend the night together in a motel. The girl keeps a book in which she carefully registers the love skills of her partner, whereby Steve gets away with "one minus", which in turn significantly improves his self-confidence. Because, as it turns out later, his marriage is not exactly happy, his wife Francis is not having a child, and it is not entirely clear which spouse this is due to.

But the matter is not over with the one-time encounter. Ella shows up against all the "rules of the game" at Steve and his wife under a pretext and then tells them that she is expecting a child. Thereupon Steve decides to get a divorce, whereupon Ella explains in turn that she will not have a child.

In the end everything is screwed up: Francis moves out of the house with her mother, Steve also leaves, as does Ella, who disappears from the scene while traveling on.

criticism

The evangelical film observer sums up his opinion as follows: “Despite [a few] unsuccessful little things, a formally perfect film, mainly thanks to the restrained direction and the convincing play of the three main actors, which allows the viewer to interpret the story shown and to deal with it stimulates. Worth seeing. ”The lexicon of international film comes to the conclusion that the film treats its subject matter“ unusually seriously in a direction that also encourages the actors to perform above average ”.
