3-Butyn-1-ol is a monohydric alcohol with an additional C≡C triple bond and the empirical formula C 4 H 6 O. It is one of three possible positional isomers .

3-Butyn-1-ol can be prepared by ethynylation. To do this, propyne is reacted with formaldehyde (using copper acetylide as a catalyst).

3-Butyn-1-ol is a highly flammable liquid (flash point: 36 ° C) with a refractive index of 1.441 (20 ° C). It is classified with level 1 (slightly water-polluting substances) in the German water hazard class.
use
3-Butyn-1-ol is the starting material for pharmaceutical syntheses and is used as a cleaning agent.
