The 30th Army ( Japanese 第 30 軍 , Dai-sanjū-gun ) was a major unit of the Imperial Japanese Army in 1945 . Her tsūshōgō code (military code name) was The Fast ( , Hashi ).

history

On July 30, 1945 the Daihon'ei (Japanese Headquarters) set up the 30th Army under Lieutenant General Iida Shōjirō and placed the 39th , 125th , 138th and 148th Infantry Divisions , some artillery units and other smaller units under her . The 100,000-strong army was subordinate to the 3rd Regional Army and had its headquarters in Hsinking . While the 44th Army, which was also subordinate to the 5th Regional Army , was stationed closer to the Soviet border, the core of the 30th Army was in central Manchuria . Except for the 39th Division, which had been formed in 1939, the other divisions were recently formed units with low combat strength and poor equipment.

When the Soviet Union attacked Manchuria in Operation August Storm on August 9, 1945, a few days before the end of the Pacific War , the resistance of the 30th Army quickly collapsed. Most of the Japanese units were destroyed or surrendered by August 15th. The captured Japanese then went into Soviet captivity .

The 30th Army was disbanded in August 1945.
