4th dimension coaster
As 4th Dimension roller coaster are roller coasters whose occupation of seats attached to the car side next to the rail and can be rotated 360 °. Originally the name is a product name of the Arrow Dynamics company , which was later adopted for similar railways.
Arrow Dynamics / S&S Sansei Technologies
Arrow Dynamics' first 4th Dimension Coaster X opened in January 2002 at Six Flags Magic Mountain . As a prototype, X initially caused big problems and was often out of order. After the takeover of the insolvent Arrow, a successor called Eejanaika was built in Japan in 2006 under the new owner S&S Sansei Technologies . The type of train used in Japan was also used on X from 2008 , with this change the train was renamed X 2 . The trains received an onboard sound system, the train itself was repainted and provided with fire effects.
Each carriage in the train is rotated by a guide rail, which was mounted directly on the normal rail of the roller coaster. The rotation while driving is therefore mechanical and not influenced by any motor. The journeys cannot be varied (provided you do not change the guide rail). Arrow Dynamics built special layouts that cannot be driven on with normal cars of a "classic" roller coaster, since a ride that is reasonable for the human body is only possible with a variation of the seat position. This created the new inversion Raven Turn , which is unique on 4th Dimension coasters. A revised version of the 4th Dimension Coaster from S&S was presented at IAAPA 2013.
Intamin
In 2007 Intamin adopted the 4th dimension concept and introduced a model called the ZacSpin . The first delivery went to the Finnish amusement park Linnanmäki . In contrast to the Arrow / S & S railways, there is no guide rail for the controlled rotation of the gondolas on the ZacSpin coasters, they can rotate freely. Thus, depending on the load of the car, there is a different driving experience. In contrast to the version of Arrow Dynamics, only layouts without horizontal curves have been implemented so far. Another difference is the single wagons at Intamin and the trains at S&S.
S&S Sansei Technologies
In 2015, the US company S&S Sansei Technologies tried again on a version of the 4th Dimension Coaster under the name 4D Free Spin . The first train of this type went to the Texan theme park Six Flags Fiesta Texas . Similar to the ZacSpin coasters from Intamin, the gondolas are freely rotatable next to the rail. The S&S model also has no horizontal curves. However, unlike the ZagSpin-Coaster from Intamin, trains with two cars each are used in the 4D Free Spin.
