5th Royal Bavarian Jäger Battalion

The 5th Jäger Battalion was an association of the Bavarian Army . The last peace location of the battalion before the renaming was Zweibrücken .

history

The battalion was set up on January 1, 1851 from units and sub-units from the 1st Jäger Battalion and 3rd Jäger Battalion at the Marienberg Fortress in Würzburg .

In the war against Prussia in 1866 it was subordinate to the 5th Brigade (Major General von Ribaupierre) and fought on June 25, 1866 near Helmstadt.

During the Franco-Prussian War , the battalion took part in the battle of Sedan under the command of the 8th Infantry Brigade (Major General von Maillinger) / 4th Division (Lieutenant General Graf von Bothmer) . From September 19, 1870 to January 28, 1871, it was incorporated into the siege ring around Paris .

The battalion was renamed the 2nd Jäger Battalion on October 1, 1878 .
