reception

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung presented 50 Words for Snow when it appeared as CD of the week. There it was praised as a "deep" and "intelligent" concept album. The music magazine Rolling Stone commented on the fact that the songs on the album are seven to thirteen minutes long and are sparingly rhythmic with the claim that the songs on 50 Words for Snow are none at all. The relatively catchy duet with Elton John, which is presented here as evidence for the thesis that Kate Bush is best with this album, is criticized if she strays far from the conventions of pop music.
