- May 30th : The siege of the Assyrian capital Nineveh by the Median ruler Kyaxares II begins.
- August 10th : Nineveh is taken by a coalition of Medes and Babylonians . The Assyrian king Sîn-šarru-iškun is killed in this attack, and Aššur-uballiṭ II succeeds him to the throne. Earlier this year, the former capital of Nimrod was conquered and destroyed by Medes and Chaldeans . His successor, Aššur-uballiṭ II, is still in Harran .
