- The Assyrian King Sîn-aḫḫe-eriba is assassinated on January 16 (20th Tebetu) during a rebellion in his 24th year of reign. On March 14th (Addaru 18th) his son Azarhaddon succeeds the throne. His first year of reign begins 12 days later on Nisannu 1 (evening of March 25th).
- The Assyrian King Asarhaddon defeated the Cimmerians, a nomadic horsemen who had invaded the country, who subsequently conquered Phrygia and caused devastation in Lydia
- 685/680 : Rusa II becomes king of Urarṭu .
