9,10-bis (phenylethynyl) anthracene is a light-sensitive polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon that is used as a fluorescent material in light sticks. As a result of chemiluminescence, it emits green light. Furthermore, 9,10-bis (phenylethynyl) anthracene is an organic semiconductor and serves as a starting material for the production of organic light-emitting diodes (OLED).
The emitted wavelength, i.e. H. the color as a result of chemiluminescence can be changed, among other things, by chlorinating the anthracene complex . Chlorinated phosphors and phosphors derived from 9,10-bis (phenylethynyl) anthracene are:
- 1-chloro-9,10-bis (phenylethynyl) anthracene (CAS number 41105-35-5) emits yellow-green light, is used in light sticks with high intensity for an operating time of up to 30 minutes.
- 2-chloro-9,10-bis (phenylethynyl) anthracene (CAS number 41105-36-6) emits green light, is used in low-intensity glow sticks for longer periods of use up to 12 hours.
