A. & Th. Linhoff
The A. & Th. Linhoff company was founded in 1860 by the brothers Anton and Theodor Linhoff by merging their inherited iron works and mainly produced iron wire . In 1873 the company was incorporated into the Westphalian Union .
history
In 1832 Mathias Linhoff from Arnsberg leased the Bericher Hütte , which was owned by the Princely Waldeck government and to which, in addition to the Berich blast furnace and hammer works, the Niederwerber Hammer , the Dornberger Hütte and the Eisenhammer zu Braunsen belonged as well as a stake in the pits Martberg and Semmet . The company employed around 50 workers and mainly produced high-quality charcoal pig iron, around 2 tons per day. In 1837 the property was given a long lease and in 1853 it was transferred to the son Anton Linhoff .
As early as 1834, Mathias Linhoff, together with the businessman Johann Adolf Overbeck from Altena and the businessman Heinrich Langenscheidt from Meschede, participated in the newly founded Overbeck, Linhoff & Co. union , which set up a puddle and hammer mill under the name Ferdinandshammer in the municipality of Belecke . Using the hydropower of the West , around 90 workers produced 700 to 800 tons of bar iron and, above all, iron wire per year. In 1852, after Langenscheidt and Overbeck had left the company, Linhoff took over the plant alone and shortly afterwards transferred it to his son Theodor Linhoff .
On July 1, 1860, the two brothers combined their plants under the A. & Th. Linhoff company and built a new, larger plant in Lippstadt with 10 puddle ovens, 2 welding ovens and 1 hollow roller, 1 bar roller and 1 wire roller. The factory in Belecke was converted into a wire and wire pen factory, and the Bericher Hütte soon gradually lost its importance. In order to supply the plant in Belecke with wire rod from Lippstadt and to transport the finished goods (wire and pins) from Belecke to be loaded onto the railroad in Lippstadt, four-horse freight wagons ran between the two companies every day, until 1883 the Westphalian State Railroad ran the route from Lippstadt to Warstein in Went into operation and thus facilitated freight traffic.
In January 1873 the A. & Th. Linhoff company was merged into the newly founded Westphalian Union .
