AJ McNamara

AJ McNamara (born June 9, 1936 in New Orleans , Louisiana , † December 2, 2014 in Metairie , Louisiana) was an American lawyer and politician.

McNamara studied at Louisiana State University , where he received his Bachelor of Science (BS) in 1959 . He then served in the United States Navy from 1959 to 1962 . At the Law School of Loyola University New Orleans he received his Juris Doctor in 1968 . McNamara practiced as a lawyer in New Orleans from 1968 to 1982. From 1976 to 1980 he was a member of the Louisiana House of Representatives .

On May 5, 1982, President Ronald Reagan nominated him as a judge on the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana to fill the vacant seat of Edward James Boyle Sr. The Senate confirmed him on June 18. His inauguration took place on June 21, 1982. McNamara served as Chief Justice from 1999 to 2001. On June 9, 2001, he assumed “senior status”.
