The A960 road is an A-road on the Scottish Orkney island of Mainland .

course

The road begins at a roundabout in Kirkwall Harbor. At this point, two more A-roads begin with the A963 and the A965 . It leads through downtown Kirkwall, past St. Magnus Cathedral , the Orkney Museum , as well as Bishop's Palace and Earl's Palace . In the south of Kirkwall branches off the A961 , which connects the islands of Lamb Holm , Glims Holm , Burray and South Ronaldsay to the road network in a southerly direction via the Churchill Barriers dam system .

Running in a south-easterly direction, the A960 connects to Kirkwall Airport and then reaches various scattered settlements and individual farms. The Howe Mine archaeological site is also just a few hundred meters off the road. Via the isthmus at the head of St Peter's Pool , the road reaches the Deerness Peninsula . There it ends in the settlement of Gritley . As the B9050, the road will continue to the east coast of the island.
