The AC Propulsion eBox is an electric car from the US company AC Propulsion based on the installation of an electric motor and a lithium-ion battery pack in a Scion xB 5-Spd MT (= manual five-speed gearbox). The customer must legally own a car of this type and bring it to AC Propulsion to have it converted into an electric car. So AC Propulsion is not an electric car manufacturer, but a conversion company. The car, which has a top speed of 153 km / h, has a range of 225 to 290 km on a full battery charge .

history

The AC Propulsion managers announced the intention to use the Scion xB as the basis for an electric car in October 2003 on the website of the Electrifying Times. Executives stated that the box-shaped shape of the Scion xB makes it easy to install the battery pack.

The prototype of the eBox was presented on August 18, 2006 in Santa Monica , California , USA. The prototype was equipped with a battery set consisting of 5300 lithium-ion batteries, divided into 100 blocks of 53 cells each. The first series eBox was delivered to US actor Tom Hanks on February 15, 2007 .

AC Propulsion is offering the conversion of the vehicle for $ 55,000, plus the cost of the base Scion xB.
