Schokinag was founded in 1923 by bank directors Hans Herrmann and Fritz Ammon as a factory for industrial chocolate. After the destruction in the Second World War , the company was rebuilt in 1945. In 1978 the grandson Hans-Joachim Herrmann took over the management of the company. Large investments in 1990, 1993 and 2000 supported further growth. SCHOKINAG North America was founded in 1991, followed by SCHOKINAG UK in 1997 and SCHOKINAG Chocolate Belgium in 2006.

In 2009 the previous family business was taken over by the American food company Archer Daniels Midland (ADM). In 2015, ADM sold its chocolate production to the US company Cargill , while the cocoa division initially remained in the ownership of ADM. In 2016, Schokinag was taken over by two Dutch financial investors. In 2020 the Malaysian company Guan Chong Berhad (GCB) took over.

Schokinag currently has an annual production capacity of between 80,000 and 90,000 tons. Schokinag's target markets are mainly the markets within the European Union .

Products

The company processes cocoa beans into cocoa mass and uses them to produce both liquid and solid chocolates and couvertures . In 1959, Schokinag supplied liquid chocolate for the first time. Today the company produces dark, milk and white chocolates , couvertures and glazes in liquid (mainly for confectionery, baked goods and for the ice cream industry) or solid form (so-called chips for remelting, baking and decorating and chunks for use in the bakery industry). Other products include decorative items and semi-finished goods such as curls , shavings , spaghetti and microchips .

The products are not delivered to end consumers , but exclusively to wholesalers and processing companies. The company works with both standardized and customized recipes.
