aQuantive, Inc. was an American company headquartered in Seattle , Washington , which was active in the areas of digital and online marketing as well as Internet advertising .

The company, with other larger offices in New York City , London , San Francisco , Philadelphia and Chicago , was taken over by software manufacturer Microsoft in 2007 for around six billion US dollars.

Data centers and infrastructure were located at Savvis in the metropolitan area of ​​Seattle , Weehawken and Dallas , at AT&T in Boston , and at MCI WorldCom in London.

aQuantive was founded in 1997 as Avenue A, Inc. and was incorporated in Washington State in February 1998. Two years later, the company went public on the NASDAQ in New York.

In 2001 the two divisions Digital Marketing Services (DMS) and Digital Marketing Technologies (DMT) were founded.

In 2003 the name was changed to aQuantive, Inc. and Avenue A and Atlas were founded as subsidiaries. The third division, Digital Performance Media (DPM), was set up in early 2004.

The largest takeover to date followed at the end of June 2004. The Internet agency SBI.Razorfish with 500 employees was bought by the SBI Group from Salt Lake City for around 160 million US dollars and Avenue A was then continued under the name Avenue A | Razorfish .

On May 18, 2007, Microsoft announced that it would take over aQuantive for $ 66.50 per share in cash. On August 17th of that year, the acquisition was completed for 6.3 billion US dollars and about five years later, on July 2, 2012, it was announced that Microsoft is writing down approximately 6.2 billion US dollars in connection with the acquisition .
