AS Garde Nationale ( Arabic الجمعية الرياضية للحرس الوطني, DMG al-Ǧamʿiyya ar-riyāḍiyya li-l-Ḥaras al-Waṭanī ) is a Mauritanian football club from Nouakchott , the capital of Mauritania, founded in 1960 . The club is the team of the Mauritanian armed forces . With seven titles won, Garde is the country's national record champions. For a long time the club dominated the league together with ASC Police , in 1998 the last title was won. Since then, the club has disappeared more and more into mediocrity, the dominating team is now FC Nouadhibou . The association used to be known as the ASC Garde Nationale (Association Sportive et Culturelle de la Garde Nationale).

history

AS Garde Nationale was the dominant club in the league and cup together with ASC Police in the 1970s and 1980s . The last title was won in 1998, the last cup in 2001. In the following years the club slipped further and further in the table and could no longer find a connection to the top. In the 2009 season you even had to relegate as bottom of the table. It was only in the 2012/13 season that they played first class again, but the direct non-relegation place was just missed by one point, and in the relegation round they had to be relegated again. Since the direct resurgence in 2014, the club has been in the first division without interruption .
