A Christmas Carol is a British miniseries of the BBC to Charles Dickens ' work of the same name . The three-part miniseries premiered on BBC One on December 22, 23 and 24, 2019 .

In November 2017 it was announced that the BBC was working on a remake of Charles Dickens' Christmas story A Christmas Carol . Steven Knight was hired as a set writer for the three-part miniseries , who is also executive producer with Tom Hardy and Ridley Scott . In May 2019, the role of Ebenezer Scrooge was cast with Guy Pearce . At the same time Andy Serkis , Stephen Graham , Charlotte Riley , Joe Alwyn , Vinette Robinson and Kayvan Novak were announced. Back in January it was announced that Tom Hardy would star in A Christmas Carol . Rutger Hauer was originally cast as the Christmas spirit. However, he previously fell ill and died in July 2019, so that he was replaced by Jason Flemyng .

Filming began in May 2019 at Rainham Hall in east London . The film was also shot at Lord Leycester Hospital in Warwick in early June 2019 . The series was released on BBC One in the UK during the 2019 Advent season and on FX in the United States . After the series Taboo , A Christmas Carol marked another co-production of the two broadcasters.
