A Lot Like Birds was an American post-hardcore band from Sacramento , California that existed from 2009 to 2018 and released four albums during their career.

history

A Lot Like Birds was founded in 2009 in Sacramento , California when guitarist Michael Franzino invited local musicians to record a joint album. The result was the debut album Plan B , which the musicians made freely available on the Internet. On this, among other things were horns , violins , and several guest vocalists to hear. Shortly after the release, the musicians began to form a core line-up consisting of Franzino, Ben Wiacek on second electric guitar, Michael Littlefield on electric bass , lead singer Cory Lockwood and Joseph Arrington on drums . The other musicians who appeared on the album should be seen as guest musicians performing live.

In January 2011, the former singer of the experimental post-hardcore band Dance Gavin Dance was firmly integrated into the band as the second singer. In April of the same year the band signed a record deal with Doghouse Records , which brought out the second album Conversation Peace in October . A year later, the group moved to Equal Vision Records and released the third album No Place through the record company. The album made it into the national album charts , where the album debuted at number 199.

In February 2015 bassist Littlefield left the group and was replaced by Matt Coate, who joined the band in June. A year later, Kurt Travis also left the group because he was dissatisfied with the musical direction. After Kurt Travis' departure, Coate and Shouter Lockwood, who had just been integrated into the group, took over Kurt's vocal parts. The fourth album DIVISI was released in May 2017 . In February 2018, the musicians announced the immediate breakup of the band.
