Aaron Bear Grünbaum

Aaron Bär Grünbaum ( October 15, 1812 in Gunzenhausen - December 9, 1893 in Ansbach ) was a German district rabbi and preacher .

Life

Aaron Bär Grünbaum was the son of Löw Koppel Grünbaum and a successor born to Ella. After the father died early, Grünbaum was taught by Rabbi Abraham Böheim in Gunzenhausen. In 1827 he came to Ansbach to study the Talmud with Rabbi Moses Hechheimer, where he also attended high school. He passed his Abitur there on August 31, 1832 and then began his rabbinical studies with Hechheimer. From the winter semester of 1832 to the summer semester of 1834, Grünbaum studied at the University of Munich under Rabbi Hirsch Aub and graduated in 1836 with the state examination.

After his election as district rabbi, he was installed in his office at the district rabbinate of Ansbach on July 12, 1841 . On January 26, 1842, he was married by Rabbi Böheim in Gunzenhausen to Helena Stettenheimer (1809-1875). In 1875 he founded the Jewish community in Rothenburg ob der Tauber . On the 50th anniversary of his service, in 1891 he received the "highest order of merit of St. Michael ".
