Aaron McCarey (born January 14, 1992 in Monaghan ) is an Irish football player .

Career

The goalkeeper comes from the youth of Monaghan United . In 2009 he played for Monaghan's first team in the League of Ireland First Division . In 2010 he moved to the English Premier League for Wolverhampton Wanderers . However, he was unable to establish himself as a regular player and was loaned out several times, in 2011 to AFC Telford United , 2012 and 2013 to FC Walsall . In September 2013, McCarey had his first game for Wolverhampton in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy . He was then loaned to York City . In early 2014, he returned to the Wanderers and was used in five league games. After a positive doping test , McCarey was banned for four months. He was then loaned to Portsmouth FC and then to Bury FC . In the summer of 2016, McCarey moved to Ross County in Scotland .

McCarey went through all Irish youth and junior national teams up to U-21 and took part in the U-19 European Championship in 2011 , in which Ireland was eliminated only in the semifinals against eventual winners Spain.
