The young art student Jiney is bored because she cannot find interesting subjects for her photos. Her life changes suddenly when she witnesses a fatal traffic accident. She wants to turn away, but cannot resist the temptation to photograph the victim. From that day on, she developed a passion for macabre photos and a fascination for death. Her friends react with incomprehension, for example when Jiney shows her friend Anson pictures from the book Art of Death during lunch . Her behavior also seems questionable to her best friend Jas.

When the two girls are talking on the balcony of their apartment on the tenth floor, Jiney starts talking about suicide and climbs over the railing. After this shock, she tells her friend that she was sexually abused by her cousin as a little girl . She feels it is fair that the cousin died after the fact when he fell down the stairs. At home, Jiney catches Anson secretly filming her. She explains urgently that she will not reciprocate his love under any circumstances, since she only wants to get involved in a lesbian relationship , if at all . She forces him to create a macabre staging in which the boy is supposed to lie down half-naked on the floor and is showered with red paint.

The student is in danger of going mad. She reveals her fear that she might one day kill someone. Jas explains that the only way to control her obsession is to talk to her mother. The following night, Jin calls her mother and clarifies the relationship, which has been strained since the rape because the mother did not believe her at the time.

The next morning there is a happy mood. The good mood ends when Jiney finds an anonymous envelope with macabre photos in her locker. Someone knows her fascination with death and wants to torment her with it. The terror gets worse when she finds a video outside her door that says "Take a look". It is a snuff film that shows a sadist killing a young woman who is tied to a chair in a torture chamber. Anson denies responsibility for this video. Jiney receives a second tape in which Jas is beaten to death. While she looks at the pictures in shock, she is kidnapped and finds herself on the chair from the video, surrounded by numerous cameras.

When the masked sadist stands in front of her, Jiney reacts challengingly. She claims that she is happy about the agony and death and asks him to kiss her. The confused stranger approaches her. She frees herself and pulls on the chain that the perpetrator has around his neck, thereby strangling him. She takes off his mask and sees the seller who sold her the book Art of Death .

At home, Jiney meets her mother. The crisis from the past has been resolved, but she does not tell her anything about the latest events. In the end, she reveals that her cousin did not die in an accident. She pushed him down the stairs.

The film was released in Hong Kong theaters on November 4, 2004. The theatrical release in Thailand followed on December 30th of the same year. Ab-Normal Beauty - In Everyone Lives Evil appeared in numerous other countries. The film had its German premiere in 2005 at the Fantasy Film Festival , and later it was also released on DVD.

Critics were divided about Ab-Normal Beauty - Evil lives in everyone . The Variety thought that the film was a cleverly put together mixture of a psychological thriller like Repulsion and a sadistic slasher film .

Awards

At the Hong Kong Film Awards 2005, the film was nominated for Best Young Artist in the categories of Best Visual Effects and Race Wong . Ab-Normal Beauty was able to prevail in both categories .
