Abbas-Ali Amid Zanjani , Persian عباسعلی عمید زنجانی, (Born March 30, 1937 in Zanjan ; † October 30, 2011 in Tehran ) was an Iranian clergyman and politician .

Career

The ethnic Aseri Zanjani was the only spiritual president of the University of Tehran to date . He did not hold a secular academic degree and was appointed on November 27, 2005 by Mohammed Mehdi Zahedi , Minister of Research in the cabinet of Mahmoud Ahmadinejad . Before his election, the president of the university was elected by the teaching staff. After he was appointed president of Tehran University, many students protested in front of the central library where the inauguration ceremony was being held.

Zanjani was also a member of the board of directors of the Imam Khomeini International University . He has published more than 40 books and 70 articles in regional newspapers and magazines. He was also the founder of the "Research Center for Studies and Research on Islamic Sciences".

During his tenure as president of the university, Zanjani was repeatedly criticized by students and academics for his mismanagement. On February 5, 2008, he was replaced by economist Farhad Rahbar after a three-day student-organized demonstration .
