(2880) Nihondaira is an asteroid of the main belt , which from on 8 February 1983 Japanese astronomer Tsutomu Seki at the observatory Geisei- ( IAU code 372) in the prefecture of Kōchi was discovered.
The asteroid was named after the Nihondaira Observatory (IAU code 385) in Shizuoka Prefecture , where the amateur astronomer Takeshi Urata made the majority of his discoveries.
