Robiquetia minimiflora is a species of plant in the genus Robiquetia within the orchid family (Orchidaceae). description

Vegetative characteristics

The relatively small plants of Robiquetia minimiflora grow epiphytically . Robiquetia minimiflora grows monopodially , the stem axis is strongly compressed. The roots are thick and surrounded by velamen . Adult plants have about four to six leaves; while new leaves form at the tip of the shoot, the older ones die at the base of the shoot axis. The leaf blade is elongated-oval with a length of about four centimeters and a width of up to 1.5 centimeters. The leaf base is wedge-shaped, the central rib is minimally indented at the tip, this two-lobed leaf tip is somewhat asymmetrical.

Generative characteristics

The approximately 15 centimeters long, racemose inflorescence appears laterally from the stem axis and hangs down. The bracts are very narrow, almost thread-shaped. The inflorescence contains about 40 to 50 resupinated flowers. They bloom one after the other, with some flowers always open at the same time.

The hermaphrodite flowers are zygomorphic and threefold. The single flower has a diameter of about 3 millimeters and is greenish yellow. The sepals are lanceolate. The petals are slightly wider, curved outwards and have a reddish spot. The lip is three-lobed, with the side lobes being very small. The middle lobe is sack-like in shape, extended into a short spur at the lower rear end. The lip is attached to the base of an extension of the column , a so-called column base. The stamen contains four pollinia of unequal size in two pairs. The separating tissue between stigma and stamen ( rostellum ) is relatively large, red in color and tapering towards the front in a point.

Occurrence

Robiquetia minimiflora is widespread in Southeast Asia from Thailand to Malaysia , Borneo , Sumatra to Java , Bali and the Philippines . Robiquetia minimiflora thrives in rainforests with no pronounced dry season, at altitudes of 300 to 1000 meters. Robiquetia minimiflora grows there as an epiphyte on tree trunks.

Systematics and botanical history

Joseph Dalton Hooker described this plant species as Saccolabium minimiflora as early as 1890 . Johannes Jacobus Smith then established his own genus Abdominea in 1917 . The generic name abdominea refers to the lip, which is said to resemble the abdomen of an insect. The specific epithet minimiflora means "small-flowered".

Abdominea minimiflora ( Hook. F. ) JJSm. was for some authors the only species in the genus Abdominea J.J.Sm. Several species in the genus Abdominea have been described from different areas of the large distribution area, all of which are synonyms for some Robiquetia species.

The species Robiquetia minimiflora (Hook. F.) Kocyan & Schuit. belongs to the genus Robiquetia . The genus Robiquetia belongs to subtribe aeridinae from the tribe Vandeae in the subfamily Epidendroideae within the family of Orchidaceae .

Further synonyms for Robiquetia minimiflora (Hook. F.) Kocyan & Schuit. are: Gastrochilus minimiflorus (Hook. f.) Kuntze , Schoenorchis minimiflora (Hook. f.) Ames , Saccolabium cortinatum Ridl. , Abdominea micrantha J.J.Sm. , Schoenorchis philippinensis Ames .
