Abdul-Yakuni Iddi (born June 25, 1986 in Salaga ) is a Ghanaian football player on the position of midfielder .

Career

Career start at home and move to the Netherlands

Iddi began his active career as a football player in his native Ghana at the Feyenoord Academy football club , which is also the largest football academy in Ghana. There he went through the various youth league classes and finally came in 2003 to the youth department of the partner club Feyenoord Rotterdam in the Netherlands , where he was henceforth active in the various youth teams of the club. He finally belonged to the club until 2007 and was in the professional squad of the club with play in the Eredivisie , the top division in Dutch football , for the first time in the 2005/06 season , although he remained without professional play and was instead used by the Jong Feyenoord. For the 2006/07 season , the native Ghanaian finally moved to Belgium on loan , where he was accepted into the professional squad of the then Belgian second division club KV Mechelen .

Change to Belgium

In Division II , Iddi was used in a total of 25 league games, in which he scored four goals. With the team he reached second place in the table behind the KFC Verbroedering Dender EH at the end of the season. While the KFC Verbroedering Dender EH managed direct promotion to the top class, KV Mechelen first had to deny the relegation play-off, in which one could, however, clearly prevail also made it to the First Division . After Iddi returned to his home club in the Netherlands after the end of the season, the midfield player at KV Mechelen was promptly committed. After his return to Mechelen , he often only acted as a substitute player or was in the club's second team. By the end of the 2007/08 season , he had only played 16 championship games, in which he remained goalless and with the team in the end ranked 13th in the final standings.

The 2008/09 season was also not particularly successful for the young Ghanaian. He had to pause several times due to an injury and was therefore only able to collect little match practice, which was also reflected in his performance record by the end of the season. So he made only 13 championship appearances in which he again remained goalless and brought the team to tenth place in the table in the final standings. It was much more successful, however, in the Belgian Football Cup of the 2008/09 season , in which the team made it to the final, but lost 2-0 to KRC Genk . Iddi has made four trophy appearances this season. Although his only few appearances were in April 2009, Iddi extended his expiring contract for another three years until the summer of 2012. Contrary to expectations, he was unable to make a breakthrough in 2009/10 either and again only made 16 league appearances. However, the team's performance increased from year to year, with this season already moving up to seventh place in the table, but also performing well in the cup and making it to the semifinals. Furthermore, Iddi also scored his first competitive goal this season since his 2006/07 loan season. He scored the goal on August 22, 2009 in a 3-1 away win over Germinal Beerschot , when he scored 3-1 in the 94th minute of the game.

In the current 2010/11 season (as of January 9, 2011) , the bad luck with injuries haunted him again, which again made him miss a large number of competitive games. So far (as of January 9, 2011) he was only in one championship game, which he did not bring the full length of the game. In addition, he keeps fit with the club's amateur team, where he has been used sporadically since his engagement in 2007. Abdul-Yakuni Iddi has played a total of 44 friendlies (one goal) for the club since his engagement before the 2007/08 season to date (as of January 9, 2011) and has almost the same number of league appearances (46 games + one goal).
