1st division 2007/08

The 1st division in 2008/09 (officially Jupiler Pro League ) was the 106th edition of the first Belgian soccer league. It began on August 16, 2008 and ended on May 16, 2009. Due to the equality of points between RSC Anderlecht and Standard Liège , two playoffs for the championship title were played. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, Axel Witsel scored the decisive 1-0 winning goal for Liège and shot her to the championship title.

Changes

The 1st division was officially called Jupiler Pro League from this season on because of a sponsorship .

It was the last season with 18 clubs. On May 17, 2008, the Belgian Football Association (KBFV) decided that the number of clubs would be reduced from 18 to 16 for the next season. This means that at least two or a maximum of four teams will be relegated to the second division this season .
